What is Cream of Wheat?

Cream of wheat is an American brand of breakfast porridge mix called farina that was first manufactured in North Dakota in 1893 by the diamond milling company. Their cream of wheat grew so much in popularity that they officially changed their name to the cream of wheat company in 1897. Since then, cream of wheat has been a popular breakfast food for kids and adults alike the world over and is great for introducing babies to solid food.

It is made from ground wheat kernels that are cooked in milk or water or both until it softens and thickens resulting in a deliciously smooth and creamy textured porridge.

The great thing about this porridge is that once you cook it, you can top it with whatever you like fruits, nuts, or even chocolate chips.

Classic Cream of Wheat Recipe

Classic Cream of Wheat Recipe

Ingredients:
  • Milk ½ cup
  • Water ½ cup
  • Cream of wheat 2 tbsp
  • Butter ½ tsp
  • Sugar ½ tsp
  • Salt to taste
Directions:
  1. Pour the milk and the water into a saucepan and place it on medium-high heat.
  2. Now add in the cream of wheat and stir so that it is well mixed.
  3. Keep stirring so that no lumps are formed and let it come to a boil.
  4. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it cook for another 2 mins until it has thickened.
  5. Now add in the butter, sugar, and salt and stir well and serve.

Ingredients:
  • Water 1 cup
  • Milk 1 cup
  • Cinnamon stick 1 
  • Cream of wheat ⅓ cup
  • Sugar to taste
  • Honey ½ tsp
  • Sliced blueberries
  • Sliced bananas
Directions:
  1. Pour water into a saucepan and add in the cinnamon stick. cover the pan with a lid and place on medium-high heat.
  2. Now add in the cream of wheat and stir well so that no lumps are produced and let it come to a boil.
  3. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and let it cook for 2 mins until it has thickened.
  4. Then remove from the heat and discard the cinnamon stick.
  5. Now add in the sugar and milk and stir well.
  6. Transfer it to a bowl and garnish with the sliced blueberries and bananas and a drizzle of honey and enjoy.

  • Cream of wheat 3 tbsp
  • Blueberries ⅓ cup
  • Sugar 2 tsp
  • Vanilla extract 1 tsp
  • Lemon extract 1 tsp

  1. Pour milk into a saucepan and place it on medium-high heat.
  2. Now add in the cream of wheat and stir so that it is well mixed.
  3. Keep stirring so that no lumps are formed and let it come to a boil.
  4. Once it comes to a boil, add in the blueberries, sugar and vanilla, and lemon extract.
  5. Now reduce the heat to low and stir well and let it cook for another 2 mins until it thickens.

  • Smooth peanut butter 1 cup
  • Salt to taste

Ingredients:
  • Milk 1cup
  • Water 1 cup
  • Pumpkin puree ½ cup
  • Butter 1 tbsp
  • Maple syrup 3 tbsp
  • Cream of wheat ⅔ cup
  • Pumpkin spice ½ tsp
  • Nutmeg powder ½ tsp
Directions:
  1. Place a saucepan on medium heat and add in the water, milk, butter, pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice, nutmeg powder, and maple syrup.
  2. Mix well and let it come to a boil.
  3. Now add in the cream of wheat and whisk well so that there are no lumps produced and continue to do so for 5 mins until it has thickened.
  4. Now pour it into a bowl and serve.
